A career in Indian Defense Forces is the noblest, respected, and indeed the most sacred one of all the available professionals. Having a career in defense a person faces up with many other avenues for growth along with being disciplined.

Training of The defense professional in the usage of different kinds of weaponry, in combat, also equipped to handle the security of anything that can range from the whole country to that of a club. There are three categories within the Indian Defense Forces careers and they are as follows:

Who will be able to join the Indian Defense Forces services?

The following are the criteria for joining the defense services and they must be unmarried:

  1. A Citizen of India, or
  2. A subject of Nepal, or
  3. A subject of Bhutan, or
  4. They need to have an intention of permanently settling in India, a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January 1962.
  5. A person who has migrated from Burma, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Uganda, The United Republic of Tanzania, Malawi, and others but having an Indian origin who wishes to settle in India.

Getting in the Indian Defense Forces, There are primarily two manners in which you can get into the Indian Defense Forces:

  • National Defence Academy (NDA)
  • Combined Defence Service Exam (CDSE)

Qualification only needs for NDA is 10+2. You need not worry if for any reason you have missed your train. After completing your graduation, you still have the chance to get into these highly coveted services.

There are also other ways in which you can get into these defense forces.

Dreaming of a Career in Armed Forces

The candidates have to enroll themselves in the National Defense Academy that is located in the scenic outskirts of Pune, Maharashtra to pursue a career in Indian Defense. For the students of class 12 every year in May, the NDA conducts an entrance test. If a person wishes to appear for the test, Mathematics and Physics are the compulsory subjects. Only 350 selected for the training each year in one lack appear for the exam. The best of the best can easily find a place at the National Defense Academy as it speaks for the facts.

The soldier mainly commissions an officer in every branch of the Indian armed forces if a trainee succeeds in passing the grueling training course and graduates from the National Defense Academy. They will be operating war machinery in aircraft, tanks, ships, or submarines if it is a technical course that the candidate completed at NDA.

The graduate soldiers start their career as an army officer and in the case of the air force, as the flying lieutenant, in the case of non-technical courses.

Apart from joining the Army, Navy, or Air Force, there are also other career opportunities in defense. One can easily become a National Security Guard or NSG commando or a Para commando. One of the toughest training also in the world as elite forces are mainly picked from regular army units. There is no means that one cannot aspire to achieve this rank.

Career Prospects:

One needs to work on machines and computer equipment which used in tanks, ships, aircraft, and submarines after one of the branches of the Armed forces, a graduate of NDA commission as an officer.

He also gets to make his start as a first lieutenant in the Army, and Navy and as a Flying Lieutenant in the Air Force if he chooses for the non-technical ground. He can grow up the hierarchy and also become the chief of staff depending on his levels of sheer skills and commitment. The level of mentally and physically tough you are, it can sum down as a whole. The prospects are immense and tough is life when it comes to the life of a soldier. Courage is the foundation for anyone to grow in this career while discipline is the bedrock here.

Eventual Rise of Rank:

  • Army- Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier, Major General, Lieutenant General, General and Field Marshal
  • Navy- Sub-lieutenant, lieutenant, lieutenant Commander, Commander, Captain, Commodore, Rear Admiral, Vice Admiral, Admiral and Admiral of the Fleet.
  • Air Force- Flying Officer, Flight Lieutenant, squadron leader, Wing Commander, Group Captain, Air Commodore, Air Vice Marshal, Air Marshal, Air Chief Marshal and Marshal of the Air Force.

National Defense and Naval Academy:

Union Public Service Commission conducts NDA based written examination two times each year, The candidate selects for their admission into the Navy, Army, and Air force wing of the Naval Academy. There are personality tests and intelligence tests for qualified candidates that also conducts by the Service Selection Board.

Educational and Physical Qualifications of Indian Defense Forces:

Army Wings of NDA:-

  1. The state education board or a university conduct the 10+2 exam pass certificate.
  2. Air Force & Naval Wing of National Defence Academy.
  3. A pass certificate in the 10+2 exam conducted by the state education board or a university with subjects of Physics and Maths.
