Rishi Kumar Shukla is well-known to all being an IPS officer. On February 2nd, 2019, he took over the charge as the director of CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) for 2 years.

Biography

Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh witnessed the birth of Rishi Kumar Shukla in the year 1960, 23rd August. He moved to Kolkata along with his family as his father was placed as the General Manager in Hindustan Motors and he did his elementary schooling at Carmel Convent Senior Secondary School, Gwalior.

He completed his further education after attending a Hindi High School in Kolkata. In his early school days, he was quite a bright student and immediately got admission into IIT Kharagpur and later in IIT Kanpur. But, due to family issues, he failed at completing his education. He then enrolled in a college to pursue B.Com as he went back to Gwalior. After that, he went on pursuing an M.A. in Philosophy.

After completing his post-graduation in 1983, he came up for the UPSC and successfully cracked the examination in his only first attempt. Rishi Kumar Shukla is well-known for his appearance with a height of 5’8” weighing 85 kg. His eye color is noted to be black with whitish hair color.

Carrer

From within the Madhya Pradesh cadre, Rishi Kumar Shukla is an Indian Police Services Officer of the 1983 batch. Rishi was posted in Shivpuri, Raipur, Damoh, and Mandsaur districts of Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh after the completion of his training from the National Police academy. He joined the offices at the early age of 23-years old and he is one of the youngest IPS officers from within his batch.

He played the most significant role in the banishment of Abu Salem and his then-girlfriend Monica Bedi in 2005.

Shukla appointed as the DGP of Madhya Pradesh by the BJP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan in 2016. He took to some strict action against the corrupt police officers during his incumbency. Just a few hours after they have broken out of the Bhopal Central Jail during his term, he considered as responsible for carrying out the encounter of 8 SIMI (Students Islamic Movement of India).

They were also behind the Dial 100 system, Rishi was the person behind the technological advancement of the Madhya Pradesh Police. He is the first DGP of MP to have an official Twitter account besides that. He also introduced the Special Task Force (STF) and Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) to the Madhya Pradesh Police.

Shukla was on leave for about 6 weeks due to his bypass surgery in the dates ranging from October 2018 to December 2018. He transferred and made the chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Police Housing Corporation on 30th January 2019 after he resumed the charge as DGP under the newly elected Congress Government on 4th December 2018.

Shukla appointed as the Director of CBI for a fixed term of 2 years after 3 days on 2nd February 2017.

Rishi Kumar Shukla belonged to a Hindu Brahmin family. His father was an Engineer in Electricity Board, Gwalior, and a General Manager in Hindustan Motors, Kolkata. His name was Bal Krishna Shukla. Rishi Kumar Shukla also has an elder sister named Shramita Pandey.

In Lala Ka Bazaar, his grandfather, Rameshwar Shastri was a famous Ayurvedacharya. The street where his grandfather practiced earlier has changed as Doctor Rameshwar Shashtri Lane/Lala ka Bazaar altogether after his grandfather. Rishi Kumar Shukla married to a school teacher named Neelam. The couple has two beautiful daughters and both of them are successful engineers.

Rishi Kumar Shukla was replacing with V.K. Singh by the Kamal Nath Government on 30th January 2019, as it was considered Rishi Kumar Shukla behind the arrest of a Pro-Congress YouTuber, Abhishek Mishra during the term of the Congress Government in Madhya Pradesh. In the postings of some IPS officers, also the MP government has some issues with Shukla’s decision makings.

  • The first being the founder director D.P. Kohli, he is the second police officer from Madhya Pradesh to work as the director of CBI.
  • From the date range of June 2016 till 30th January 2019, Rishi had served as the DGP of Madhya Pradesh.
  • The farmer’s agitation took place in Madhya Pradesh during his term as a DGP and this had led to the death of six farmers during police firing in Mandasur on 6th June 2017.
  • For only 3 days, Rishi had also served as the Chairman of Madhya Pradesh Police Housing Corporation in Bhopal.
