It has asked Pakistan for Indian National Kulbhushan Jadhav to be represented by an India lawyer for his death sentence to filling a review petition, ” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India last month has said.

“We are in touch with Pakistan through diplomatic channels, we believe in a free and fair trial in keeping with the letter and spirit of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) judgment. We have asked that Indian Kulbhushan Jadhav to be represented by an Indian Lawyer,” MEA Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava had said during a virtual briefing.

“However, it is important that Pakistan addresses the core issues and those core issues involve providing all the necessary documents in this case as well as providing unimpeded consular access to Jadhav, “he had said.

This comes after Islamabad High Court gave “another opportunity” to appoint a defense counsel and adjourned the matter till 6 October but Pakistani Channel Geo News reported last night Pakistan Foreign Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhary said that there was no option for India but “Cooperate with Pakistani courts”, which permitted the appearance of locally registered lawyers before the bench.

Pakistan claims that Indian National Kulbhushan Jadhav was arrested from Baluchistan in espionage.

India has rejected Pakistan’s allegations and said Kulbhushan Jadhav was kidnapped from the Iranian port of Chabahar. In early 2017, a Pakistani military court sentenced him to death.
